We Were Wolves
We Were Wolves is a book about the love between a father and son, and how that can be compromised by the complexities of life, especially when mental health issues are involved. It was published by Andersen Press, and was nominated for the Carnegie Medal and the Kate Greenaway Prize.

Since childhood I’ve always loved black and white pen work more than any other form of illustration, and when I embarked upon the portfolio of images for We Were Wolves I consciously attempted to pay homage to the many illustrators who inspired me in my career, from Charles Keeping to Maurice Sendak and Tove Jansson, and including comic illustrators I adored in my youth, such as Brian Bolland, Mike McMahon, Carlos Esquerra and Dave Gibbons.
